We're hiring laborers to join our field crew — planting trees, building landscapes, and helping run one of the largest production nurseries in the Pioneer Valley. The work is physical, it's outdoors, and it changes with the seasons. If that sounds like a good fit, we'd like to hear from you.
No experience required. We'll train you on everything from proper planting technique to running equipment. What matters most is showing up ready to work, being someone the crew can count on, and taking pride in what you build.
What You'll Do
Your day depends on the season and what's on the schedule. Across a typical year, you'll work across both sides of our operation:
Landscape construction — planting trees, shrubs, and perennials on residential, commercial, and municipal job sites. Assisting foremen on hardscape projects including patios, walkways, and retaining walls. Grading, soil prep, and finish work.
Nursery operations — watering, pruning, and maintaining 20+ acres of growing stock. Digging and balling field-grown trees. Tagging inventory, loading trucks, and filling wholesale orders for landscapers and municipalities across New England.
Winter work — snow removal for commercial and residential clients, nursery pruning, equipment maintenance in our heated workshop, and preparing stock for spring.
What We're Looking For
- Reliable and hard-working — the kind of person who finishes what they start
- Comfortable lifting 50+ lbs and working outdoors in all seasons
- Willing to learn and take direction well
- Valid driver's license (CDL is a plus, but not required)
- Prior landscape, nursery, farm, or construction experience is helpful but not necessary — attitude and work ethic matter more
Why Amherst Nurseries
Year-round employment. Most landscaping companies in New England lay off their crews in November. We don't. Between snow removal, winter pruning, equipment maintenance, and spring prep, we keep our people working through the off-season. Steady hours, steady paychecks, all year.
You'll actually learn a trade. This isn't mow-and-blow. You'll work alongside experienced foremen on real construction and growing operations — the kind of skills that build a career in this industry, not just a seasonal job.
Small crew, real camaraderie. We're a tight-knit team. Most of our people have been here for years, and that's not an accident. We look out for each other, we work hard together, and we take pride in what we put in the ground.
Serious operation, serious equipment. 20+ acres of production nursery, a full equipment fleet, a heated workshop, and irrigated growing fields. You'll have the tools to do the job right.
Overtime and weekly pay. Hours flex with seasonal demand — spring and fall are busy, and overtime is available. You're paid weekly, every week.
