General Manager (CEO Track)

Hadley, MA Full-time Posted July 13, 2026

Run the business day-to-day and grow into leading it as CEO. This is an operating seat with clear progression: own the P&L, drive the business forward, and in 1-3 years become its primary leader.

What We're Looking For

What matters most is that you lead effectively, think ambitiously, and look forward to spending time in the trenches. The successful candidate will roll up their sleeves, earn the crew's trust, and turn opportunity into results.

  • Long-term oriented, results-driven operator
  • Credible with the frontline and energized by working alongside them
  • Comfortable with the numbers, fluent in what drives a business
  • Hungry to build, and patient enough to see it through
  • Roots in New England or a genuine desire to establish them here
  • An MBA or equivalent management experience — traditional or hard-won, either works for us

If you've run something, led people, or driven exceptional outcomes, we've saved this seat for you.

What You'll Do

Spend time in both the field and front office, building the future of Amherst Nurseries. Your day-to-day work will change with the seasons and priorities in front of us.

Run the operation. Own the landscaping and nursery production — scheduling, purchasing, equipment, and quality. Work closely with a foreman who's been here more than a decade and knows this world inside and out.

Master the numbers. Drive the P&L. Understand where money is made, sharpen pricing and margins, and make the calls that keep our growing business healthy.

Grow the business. Deepen relationships, expand our footprint across the region, and scale operations thoughtfully as demand grows. Source, diligence, and help us acquire attractive M&A targets.

Lead from the front. Show up, know the work, and jump in when the job calls for it. When drivers call out and deliveries must be made, you're the kind of person who grabs the keys.

Why Amherst Nurseries

Work worth showing up for. The days can be long, the work can be hard, but all-in-all, it's immensely gratifying. We love this work, and we need someone who'll love it too.

A serious operation. 20+ acres of irrigated nursery production, a full equipment fleet, a heated workshop, and a reputation built over 25 years. You'll have the tools, team, and backing to win.

A team worth leading. A tight-knit, cross-trained crew that takes pride in the work and looks out for each other.

Autonomy and ownership. You'll report to an owner/operator who's walked this path and wants to see you succeed. The growth ahead is yours to shape and share in.
